As we already mentioned, there are two types of home security cameras available in the market these days. These are wired and wireless cameras. Wireless cameras use Wi-Fi internet connectivity to do a lot of their work, including sending surveillance videos to the cloud. What this does is help camera users to view these videos on any device that is connected to the internet. Having said that, not all of these cameras are completely wireless. A lot of them use a power cable to be connected to an AC power source. Some of these also use batteries for power.
Wireless cameras are also called smart cameras. The reason for them being called by this name is how a user can control their working with the help of an app on their phone. A lot of these cameras can also integrate with smart home systems, such as Amazon Alexa. These are just a couple of things that put them in the ‘smart camera’ category.

On the other hand, a wired home camera is wired to network video recorder (NVR), digital video recorder (DVR), or any other onsite video storage system. No matter how many of these cameras you install in your home, you will have a cable connecting them to the local storage device. They take both their internet and power from this onsite device only. Wired cameras can’t work with Wi-Fi. However, you can use an Ethernet cable to connect to the internet and view recorded videos remotely.

These are just a few important things that make a home security camera what it is. There are many other things as well that differentiate one camera from the other. But this information is good enough to develop a basic understanding of a security camera for home.
