Giving your home a custom look is attainable with wallpapers. Yet, if you are a bit scared to be committed to providing your home with a permanent one, removable wallpaper can be an excellent way for you to start. This guide will cover many things that will help beginners in their journey to the world of wallpaper.

In this article, traditional or permanent wallpapers will be referred to as real wallpaper. Simultaneously, the removable ones go by the names temporary wallpaper, peel and stick wallpaper and removable wallpaper, to name a few. Temporary wallpapers have the same look and feel like the real wallpaper, except that the latter is messy when installing. Adhesives used are low tack which sticks to flat and smooth wall surfaces with minimal damage and, if installed correctly, will cleanly pull off the wall.

A Beginner’s Guide in Choosing Removable Wallpaper

If you are planning to order online, make sure that you look at the manufacturer’s details to confirm its peel and stick or adhesive. Some temporary wallpaper involves paste which could be a little messy. Rid yourself from these products if you want to do it the easy way.

Peel and stick wallpapers are very simple to install. You only have to peel the product from the back and apply it to the walls. If needed, removal and repositioning of the wallpaper can be easily done.

You might ask if removable wallpapers work. They do as long as you follow what the directions and guidelines from the manufacturer say. They can last for as long as you want to if properly installed. Make sure to check on the manufacturer’s recommendations to confirm if the product can be installed in a high-humidity part of your house, like the bathroom.

Will Removable Wallpapers Cause Damage to Walls?

They won’t damage the walls if the manufacturers’ instructions and guidelines are properly done upon installation. Below are three (3) common rules you need to follow to lessen the damage on walls.

  1. Do not install on walls that are freshly painted.
  2. Apply on satin, eggshell, or semi-gloss paint.
  3. Apply on smooth surfaces, not on textured ones. Make sure to smooth out if there are textured parts of the wall.

How to Measure Removable Wallpaper

The best way to identify the amount of wallpaper you’ll need is to measure the wall’s width that you want to install. Then, divide that by the wallpaper’s single panel width. Doing this will give you an approximate number of rolls required to cover specific walls.

If there’s a door or window, order paper for that specific area, then cut around the frame while the removable wallpaper is hanging. Just like the real wallpaper, order all the paper that you’ll need and add a little extra because the colour may vary if you choose to buy at a later time. It is advised that you order about 15-20% extra paper. This will be useful if you mess up installing or miscalculated the needed amount of paper. It is recommended that you at least check the measurement twice before finally ordering the removable wallpaper.

Hopefully, this helped you have a better understanding of how to choose temporary wallpaper for your home. Now that you have the idea, the fun part comes – time to look for the perfect wallpaper pattern!
